Nov 18 2009 4 Dudes Ride into Douro

We had 4 Dudes turn out on another gorgeous fall day for cycling. From Beavermeade we cycled up the Rotary Trail to Pioneer Rd which starts at Nassau Mills Rd across from the pedestrian bridge by Trent U. Headed east on Pioneer up to Cty Rd 4 (Warsaw Rd), bottom photo, then east on Cty Roads 4 & 8 into the village of Douro. Barry suggested that we ride north from the village crossroads on the Douro 4th Line which looks like a long uphill climb but in reality has only a short easy climb up to Centre Rd, where we passed a group horses galloping in a field, a beautiful sight with their tails arched & the ground echoing to the sound of their hooves! We cycled west (left turn) on Centre Rd which has a gradual uphill grade, across Hgw 28, middle photo, until you reach the eastern edge of the Otonabee River valley, top photo, where the reward is the panoramic view followed by a long downhill ride to the Lakefield Trail on which we returned to Peterboro , crossing the London St Bridge, to can you guess, The Ritz Deli North for a gourmet lunch, 1st time for Dave & Garnet. From the Ritz we returned over the London St bridge to the Rotary Trail & Beavermeade having cycled 40 km. We couldn't have asked for a better day to perhaps conclude our 2009 biking season. However if this stretch of favourable weather conditions continue we will consider more rides until the snow flies!
