Lakefield to Selwyn Ride-Sept 10

Barry Diceman wanted to check out this new route thru the Smith Twp countryrside so today, Friday Sept 10, Barry & I headed out from the public parking lot beside the Lakefield arena, cycling beside the Otonabee R on Water St to the bridge then riding on Bridge St to the Youngs Point Rd & out to Preston Rd, 1st photo. North on Preston to the 12th Line, 2nd photo. Then west on the 12th across the Buckhorn Rd (Cty Rd 23) to Birch Island Rd. South on Birch Island Rd, 3rd photo, to the Selwyn Conservation Park on the shores of Upper Chemug Lk next 2 photos. Returned on Birch Island Rd, photo of Pete, to the 11th Line. Then west on the 11th to the Centre Line of Smith. South on Centre Line which has a few moderate grade hills. in the photo with the rail fence you can see Chemung Lk in the distance, across the Selwyn Rd (Cty Rd 20) then the Bridgenorh Hgw (Cty Rd 18), photo of Barry 2nd from the top, to the 7th Line, west on the 7th across the Buckhorn Rd, top photo, to the Lakefield Rd (Cty Rd 29) & back to our car. This 34 km has a few easy hill climbs, great views, & receives a 5 star rating from me. Barry will lead this ride on Wed. Sept 15, weather permitting, with the addition of a short ride in Lakefield to the Katchewanooka wetlands.

Sept 1- Beavermeade - Douro Loop

Because of the heat wave we postponed the Bobcaygeon ride until Sept 8 meeting instead in Beavermeade for a 9:00 start. 10 Dudes turned out for this 26 km ride that takes you into the scenic Douro countryside. We cycled on the Rotary Trail to Trent U, over the pedestrian bridge, across Nassau Mills Rd to Nassau Rd. Then east on Nassau Rd to Cty Rd 8 (Warsaw Rd) & the Doruo 7th Line intersection. Continued south on the 7th Line across Division Rd, where the 7th Line becomes Sweeney Line to the Old Norwood Rd. Turned right on to the Old Norwood Rd, cycling west to Television Rd (Cty Rd 35). Here you have 2 options, #1 is to continue west on the Old Norwood Rd to Ashburnham Dr. #2 is to cycle south on Television Rd to Manice Ave which takes you beside Liftlock Golfland to Ashburnham Dr. We arrived back in Beavermeade at 10:45 so managed to avoid the intense heat.The bottom 2 photos were taken on Nassau Rd, the 3rd photo of the group is at the junction of Nassau & Cty Rd 8, the 4th photo of Pete Gardner shows the 7th Line from this intersection, photos 5 & 6 were taken on the 7th Line, 7 & 8 on Sweeney & the last 2 photos are on the Old Norwood Rd, just before it crosses Television Rd. The top photo with Jim in the foreground shows the Old Norwood Rd heading west into Peterborough.
