Nov 3 - Beavermeade to Hope Mill

7 Dudes cycled this 42 km route in 3 hours from Beavermeade thru Lang village to Hope Mill. Overnight the temperature was -7 C with a heavy frost in the morning but as you can see in the photos it was another gorgeous day for cycling & the temperature did reach a pleasant 10 C. Our route with a minor change was the reverse of the ride we had done on July 14. From Beavermeade we cycled thru the Ecology Garden to Ashburnham Dr, across Landsdowne St, over Hgw 7 continuing on Ashburnham which becomes Crowley Line to Assumption Rd where the bottom 5 photos were taken including 2 views of the city, one taken with the zoom lens. Assumption Rd ends at the church in the hamlet of Assumption on the Keene Rd. Barry then led us south on the Keene Rd for a 1/2 km to Redmond Rd, left turn & east to the rail trail, next photo, SE on the trail across Drummond & Providence Lines, 2nd trail photo, to Base Line where the trail passes thru private property so you have to ride 100m down the driveway to reach Base Line. From Base Line the rail trail is very rough so we cycled east on Base Line, next 2 photos, to Nelson Rd where you reconnect with the rail trail, north on Nelson to Allandale Rd thru the village of Lang to River Rd & the restored Hope Mill. A great blue heron was flying back & forth across the river upstream from the dam as we took this break. From Hope Mill we continued NE on River Rd by the Indian River to North David Fife Rd & north to Hgw #7 where there is a slight jog west to Jermyn Line, north on Jermyn which turns into the Douro 4th Line to Division Rd. West on Division across Hgw #28, an uphill stretch as the top 2 photos show, to the intersection at Sweeney & the Douro 7th Lines, Pete G headed north on the 7th across Cty Rd 4 (Warsaw Rd) to Pioneer Rd & his car at Trent U while the remaining 6 headed south on Sweeney to the Old Norwood Rd then cycled east up to Television Rd. Pete M, Garnet & Fred decided to avoid another hill climb so cycled south on Television Rd to Manice Ave which takes you beside Liftlock Golfland to Ashburnham Dr & back to Beavermeade. Barry, Bruce & Ken P continued uphill on the Old Norwood Rd to Ashburnham Dr. I cut thru the Trent Severn property to the Little Lake trail where a group of canoeists were approaching the shoreline causing a flock of geese to fly up from the lake creating wave action with a loud beating sound from their wings as they honked overhead, a spectacular site when you are so close to them. The canoesits & kayakers are members of a seniors club in Oshawa & know our own Peter Hamley. After the ride we enjoyed pub grub at The Porch & Pint. In conclusion while there are a few moderate hills to negotiate, as the photos illustrate, this route provides yet another nice option for a scenic countryside ride from Beavermeade.
