August 21 - Robin’s Cavan-Monaghan Ride & BQ

Robin Maughan led 15 cyclists on this 30 km ride. We met by bike & car in the parking lot at Hgw 115 & Cty Rd 10 for a 10:00 departure. From the parking lot Robin led us north on Cty Rd 10 into Cavan, east on Hgw 7A across #115 to Moore Dr & east to Hgw 28 crossing the highway to continue east on Airport Rd to Bartlett Rd & south into Whitfield Landing on the Otonabee R. From Whitfield cycled SW on Atchison Rd crossing #28 to Larmer Rd & west to Hutchison Dr. Bob Hawker & Keith Buchanan continued west on Larmer to Cty Rd 10 & back to the parking lot. The others cycled south on Hutchison to Cty Rd 21 then west uphill for several km before a downhill ride into Millbrook. Bob Penny, Jim McIntosh, & Mike Steele extended their ride by continuing west on Cty Rd 21 to Tapsley1/4 Line completing a loop back to the cars. The main group left Millbrook by cycling up an intimidating looking hill before continuing north on Cty Rd 10 to the cars. It was a hot summer day but a gentle breeze made the conditions quite pleasant. There are hill climbs on this route especially once you reach Cty Rd 21.
